This station (IP address) cannot loan items belonging to -" *MASTER RECORD*

    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23
    • Relevant for Installation Type: Dedicated-Direct, Direct, Local, Total Care

    Description:
We get the following message trying to loan items in the GUI: "This station (IP address) cannot loan items belonging to -".

    Resolution:
This message is "LoanDenied" in the pc file .\Circ\tab\eng\message.dat:
LoanDenied #Item Loan O E This station (IP address) cannot loan items belonging to\n%s - %s

It occurs when neither the pc's ip-address nor its station-id (details in KB 16384-49281) is specified in the ./xxx50/tab/tab_attr_sub_library as valid for loan for this particular sublibrary. (And if it is likewise not specified in the
$alephe_tab/tab_attr_sub_library.) This can happen when DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is being used -- as it normally is -- and the IP-address of a particular PC is not fixed, but rather, is subject to change.

In one case the site had exceeded the 6,000-line-limit to tab_attr_sub_library and the entry in question was beyond line 6,000 and was being omitted.

If the message occurring after a re-install of the client via gui500.exe in cases where you use the station-id (rather than the ip-address), see article:  Repackaging GUI Error: "Building alephcom during STEP2" .

If the message occurs seemingly at random and you have a wireless network (in addition to the wired), see article"  Random "This station (IP address) cannot return items belonging to ..."  .

If none of the above apply, see article "Diagnosing "This station (IP address) cannot loan items belonging to..." message" (KB 16384-67025) for a procedure to diagnose this problem.
