Turn off archiving of look-up transactions?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
We understand that it is unwise to turn off Oracle archiving as a way to improve performance. However, we're wondering, since ALEPH seems to log everything, if it would be possible to turn off some logging. For example, are lookups (both GUI and OPAC) logged as well as anything that changes the database? If so, could we turn off logging of look-ups? What would be the impact, other than potentially improving speed?

    Resolution:
There's no ability in Oracle to turn off archiving for just certain updates. Thus, the z05 and z110 result-set updates and the z69 / z34 / z35 (OPAC transaction) updates are archived in the same way as any other updates.

As described in KB's 8192-2055 and 8192-2130, you don't really need either the xxx01 z35 (it can be dropped) or the logging of Web z34's.
