    Using manage-21 on the LDR

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
How can I make global changes on the LDR or the 008 in a HOL record? Manage-21 won't allow the carat "^" as part of the text for a find and replace.

    Resolution:
The Global Change service (manage-21) cannot be used to manipulate any of the fixed fields (including the LDR - Leader). These changes are accomplished using a generic fix script. The documentation for configuring these scripts is available on the Documentation Center. Look for:

"How to Set Up a Script for the Correction of Records in ALEPH Sequential Format"

NOTE: You can now apply these scripts directly to database records - not just records formatted in ALEPH Sequential Format. Refer to the Knowledge Base Record #5387 in the CRM for information on applying the script.

One warning about using manage-37: "Beware of using manage-37 to directly update database records if you use the CAT LEVEL to control access to your records. It will change the CAT LEVEL to "00" for all of the records that it updates. As noted in KB 8192-5672, this has been addressed in version 19, with rep_ver 14154:

Description:Two new parameters were added into 3 batch-jobs (manage-37, manage-21 and file-98): Cataloger-name and Cataloger-level. They allow determining the cataloger and level written into the field CAT at the updated doc records. They act as they do in manage-18 except that when they are not filled, the CAT field is written as before this development.
