Web OPAC user preferences creating new profiles in gen'l client profile dropdown

    • Article Type: General

    • Product Version: 18.01

    Description:
We are interested in allowing the users to set personal profiles when logged in to the OPAC. However, we've discovered a problem that concerns us. Here is what is happening:

    1. User bec9223210 is logged in to the Web OPAC, goes into their Library Card, goes into the preferences, and saves off some changes.

    2. Log into the circ client (as CCLA for example). Search on that user and look at the global patron information. When you look at the profile box, there is now a new profile listed. That's fine.

    3. Bring up another patron's record and look at the global patron information. Their profile is fine. However, when click on the arrow next to profile, you now see the profile that was created for bec9223210 listed there.

That is not good. That will cause a real problem if say, 20000 users decide to set their preferences, and there are 20000 additional profiles listed in the dropdown for changing a user's profile. How can we make sure that the only user record that has the profiles created out of the Web Opac is the user that created that profile?

    Resolution:
In version 20.1 the system works as follows:

If a patron changes his profile in the web, then a personal profile is created. However the personal profile does not appear in the global patron record profile pull down box, thus preventing a big, long, hard-to-work-with list.

It will appear only when accessing the profiles via the icon on the top right or via the menu patrons > patron profile.
