What library to use for indexing table already in parallel library?

    • Article Type: Q&A

    Question

The xxx01 library has synonyms pointing to the xxx03 library (a parallel library) for the z01 (Access headings) and z02 (ACCDOC) tables. The Headings need to be regenerated. Is it better to do this in the xxx01 library or the xxx03?

    Answer

Neither. The best practice, by far, is to open a second parallel library (such as xxx04), and run the Headings jobs in that library. After which, the xxx01 synonyms can quickly be switched to point to the tables in the new library and, if there's any problem, easily and quickly switched back. Then, in future regenerations, the other (non-active) parallel library can be used, so that one is swapping back and forth.
Or the Test server could be refreshed with the current Production server data, the indexing run there, and the resulting z01 and z02 sent over to Production.
