    Where are synonyms stored? How is Z970 created?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Description:
    Where does the system save the list of synonyms that you enter via Web Staff /S Utilities?

    Resolution:
    The synonyms are saved in the BIB library's Z970 Oracle table. This functionality is documented in v15.2 rep_ver 3013, which I am including below since it doesn't seem to be anywhere else in such detail.

    Adding, removing, deleting and viewing Z970 records is managed through the BIB library's Utilities menu in the WEB Utilities interface (accessed from WEB STAFF menu: http://il-aleph07.corp.exlibrisgroup.com:8993/S).

    v15.2 rep_ver 3013:

    Synonyms are words that share the same bitmap value; in other words, they are equal.
    For example, if karel, karl, carol, charles are set as synonyms, a FIND on any one of these words will retrieve the docs of all the other words. This type of functionality can be achieved through x-refs in AUThority records, together with setting the WORD indexing in tab_expand to expand_doc_bib_accref.
    An application might want to set these synonyms in a direct manner, without AUT records. The development of the Z970 is for this purpose. There is a new table Z970 for synonym groups.
    A synonym group is identified by a common word (Z97-COMM-WORD); this word is set by the system (first word of the group in the Z970 table). The Z97 table has a new column (Z97-REC-NUMBER-2) which is a unique record key. The Z97-REC-NUMBER column (which used to be a unique record key) is now used in order to identify the word record for which the word is a synonym. If the word is not a synonym, the Z97-REC-NUMBER and the Z97-REC-NUMBER-2 will be the same. If the word is a synonym, the value of the Z97-REC-NUMBER will be the same as the value of the Z97-REC-NUMBER-2 of the "common word". When word indexing (manage-01) is run from scratch, before the system begins indexing the DOC records, the system first builds Z97 records from the Z970 table.
    Adding, removing, deleting and viewing Z970 records is managed through the BIB library's Utilities menu in the WEB Utilities interface (accessed from WEB STAFF menu). [Note: This is UTIL-B. Though "B" is not on the menu, you *can* enter it in.];

    2. Remove words from a synonym group. The words entered do not have to be from the same group. Please notice - this action will cause reindexing of all documents that the related groups appears in (throught the Z07 and ue_01 mechanism).

    3. Remove group of synonyms. The group is defined by the common word in Z970-COMM-WORD.

    4. View the synonyms and their group identifiers
