Z309 - Best practices on retention

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23

    Question

Do you have any recommendations regarding the z309 table and how often or to what extent it should be either maintained or regularly purged?
Which "best practices" which you would suggest?

    Answer

You need to keep the z309 records only as long as you think you might need additional info for this time period for a particular patron in the "Circulation Log" in the GUI Patron Activity tree or from the Circ Logger report (cir-21) or your own SQL which you might run against the table.  Note that, as described in the article "Limit to number of Circulation Log / z309 records displayed in GUI", only about 64,000 z309 records will display for a patron in the GUI.

Aleph doesn't require or use the z309 records in any other way.

The Circulation Logger Clean Up service (cir-78) deletes z309 records older than a particular date.

    Additional Information

Extract from help file of service Circulation Logger Clean Up (cir-78)
"This service cleans up the circulation logger. All log events that are older than the input date will be deleted, if the transaction that they belong to is closed.
This means that loan related events will be deleted only if the loan has been returned or deleted. Cash related events will be deleted only if the transaction has been fully paid."
