httpd: "Redirecting" error and "Page cannot be displayed"

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20

    Problem Symptoms:
After reconfiguring Aleph to use port 80 [on this Exlibris-hosted site] rather than port 8991 for Apache, Apache doesn't work:

    1. The user sees a "Redirecting" error and/or "Page cannot be displayed".
    2. Neither the www_server log, the ./alephe/apache/error.log or the ./access.log show any response to the OPAC query.

    Cause:
There was a port forward configured for this IP. Likely it was previously a Primo Customer IP, because port 80 was forwarded to port 1701.

One of the config files related to PDS had not been changed and was redirecting to port 8991.

In another case the problem was that port 80 was not open in the firewall. See Article 19385 ("The connection has timed out. The server at ... is taking too long to respond")

    Resolution:
The port forward was removed and port 80 is now open.

The PDS config file was changed to redirect to port 80 rather than port 8991.
