pc_server_write_log.c: Value too large for defined data type

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 17.01

    Description:
We see this message hundreds of times in the pc_server log:
pc_server_write_log.c: Value too large for defined data type
    What does this mean?

    Resolution:
The message occurs when either the pc_ser_6nnn file or the pc_server_6nnn.log file exceeds the system "ulimit" value. "ulimit" - is MAX file size this unix user is allowed to create. Very often this is 2Gig but may be OS dependent.

If it occurs because of large numbers of error messages, then correcting the error(s) which are generating the messages may be enough.

If it occurs because of a large amount of activity, you may need to stop/restart the pc_server with greater frequency.

As suggested in Knowledge Base# 3966, we suggest *not* writing the pc_ser_6nnn file at all.
