    print-03 fails to extract item data for Bib records with many items

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 20, 21, 22, 23

    Description:

    print-03 ("Download machine-readable records") fails to extract all the item data for certain Bib records with many items attached.     The $alephe_scratch/sys01_p_print_03.05342 contains the following message:
    docx_to_marc - Record no. 000615269 truncated after 100000 characters

    { There are 803 items for the ADM record linked to this bib record 000615269. When the fields from these items are expanded into the output record by this sys01 tab_expand line:
    PRINT-OCLC expand_doc_bib_z30 TAG=930
    it causes the output record to exceed the maximum (of 100,000 bytes).  }

    Resolution:

    (See "Old Resolution", below, for a description of the previous situation.)    A fix has been developed for versions 22 (rep_change 002513) and 23 (rep_change 004025):

    Solution: This has been corrected. Now a record with thousands of items can be downloaded by p_print_03 in 'MARC xml' format or 'MARC xml with alphanumeric tags' format.

    These fixes will be in the next Service Packs for versions 22 and 23.

    [Old Resolution:]
    1. Reduce the number of z30 fields specified in the sys01 expand_doc_bib_z30 to be included as subfields in the output 930 field. This will reduce the size of the output records.  OR

    2. Remove the following line from the sys01 tab_expand:
    PRINT-OCLC expand_doc_bib_z30
    This means that *no* items will be included in the output file, but at least you'll get all the Bib and HOL record information. The file-03 Service can be used to export (all of) the z30 records, producing sequential-format ./xxx50/files/z30_seq.ax files, and then the z30's for the problem records can be extracted from the relevant z30_seq.aoutput file.
