sip2_server: how to display "patron card expired" message

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph

    Description:
In using our self-check machine, we would like to have an error message display at the point of the patron barcode scan if the patron has an expired expiration date. Is this possible?

Patrons are getting confused, thinking something is wrong with the item, when, in fact, it is their expiration date causing the problem. If a patron has an expired card, they are still able to scan their card and it's only after scanning an item they get the message "Item not available for loan - take item to circulation desk."

    Resolution:
The tab_check_circ check for expiration date is check_circ_1_c_a.

Please add the following line to each ./xxx50/tab/tab_check_circ:

    SIP-AUTH check_circ_1_c_a

(The SIP-AUTH operates at the patron level, before the item is considered.)

    And then restart the sip2_server(s).

[Note: One site reported that the above change caused the following to occur for all self-check transactions:

    Self Check system problem
3M SelfCheck System: 3M SelfCheck System 1. System is out of service. Please contact 3M for service.
Fails to receive ILS response - check connection and verify matching ILS configuration - ERR_SIP_TOO_MANY_COMMAND_SEND_RETRIES ]
