    sip2_server log: "License limit exceeded"

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Aleph
    • Product Version: 22, 23

    Problem Symptoms:
When two self-check machines try to access sc_server nnnn at the same time (within 1 minute of each other), the $LOGDIR/sip2_server_nnnn.log shows the following for the second machine:

    Licensed SelfCheck servers: 00000000n
    Active SelfCheck servers :  00000000n
    yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss License limit exceeded - exiting

    <where "00000000n" is the same number>.

    Cause:
License doesn't permit more than n simultaneous accesses.

    Resolution:
    1. Estimate the number of self-check machines which will be accessing the server simultaneously (within one minute of each other). As general rule we recommend to have one user per machine using SIP2.

    2. Contact your Ex Libris office to request a quote for a new license file with MAX-SC-SERVERS=n .

    Additional Information

MAX-SC-SERVERS is checked in the ./pc_com/pc_license_limit program. This is the number of self-check machines being used simultaneously. Each self-check session creates a separate z65 record.

The program compares the number of "active" selfcheck server sessions (z65_type "SC-SERVER") to the MAX-SC-SERVERS value. "Inactive" means no activity in the last minute.
