    We changed a record via API. When we view the record in the metadata editor, we do not see the changes but we get the message "An external process has changed the original record. It is recommended to reload original record".

    Resolution

    The record was never released from Metadata Editor. When you work on a record in the metadata editor, it exists as draft. You can save the draft to the database but the process does not work the other way round. You have two versions now, the version in the Metadata Editor, and the version in the database. You will need to reload the original record in order to see the changes done by the API.
