    ECT code in Alma XML to Primo - what does it mean?

    • Product: Alma

    Question

    There's a new datafield in the Primo PNX for Electronic Collections bib records:

    <datafield tag="ECT" ind1=" " ind2=" ">
    <subfield code="a">database</subfield>
    </datafield>

    What does it signify?

    Answer

    ECT refers to "Electronic Collections".  More about this type of resource is in the Online Help, under: "Managing Electronic Collections".

    There are three Alma Electronic Collections Types - Selective, Aggregator Package, or Database.  More is in same above page, in the section: "Initial Collection Information".

    All three types will get an ECT of Database in the Publishing Information if they meet the conditions to publish to Primo, having an Election Collection URL and an unsuppressed linked descriptive record.
