    Question

    How does Alma determines the “record type” of a BIB record?
    We can see in the operational record that the following field exists:
    <opr:fld name="material_type">XX</opr:fld>
    Where XX can be BK,CR,MU,MP,VM,CF,MX
    But we want to know how these material type is determined.

    Answer

    see attachment
    The material type code is determined by a combination of the codes in positions 6 and 7 of the LDR field.
    We will have BK in the following cases:
    Pos6=a and pos7=c
    Pos6=a and pos7=d
    Pos6=a and pos7=m
    Pos6=t and pos7=” “
    We will have CR in the following cases:
    Pos6=a and pos7=b
    Pos6=a and pos7=i
    Pos6=a and pos7=s
    We will have MU in the following cases:
    Pos6=c
    Pos6=d
    Pos6=i
    Pos6=j
    We will have MP in the following cases:
    Pos6=e
    Pos6=f
    We will have VM in the following cases:
    Pos6=g
    Pos6=k
    Pos6=o
    Pos6=r
    We will have CF in the following cases:
    Pos6=m
    We will have MX in the following cases:
    Pos6=p
