Question about the Resource Sharing Library field in a user record

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Alma

    Question

We currently have one resource sharing library but are planning to create one RS library at each campus.
We can then add the appropriate RS library to each user record.
    I have a few questions.
If a user has no RS library specified in their user record, what happens to the RS request?
Is there a default RS library set in config?

    Answer

The RS library of a request is determined as follows:

    1. System checks if the user has a RS library specified in their user record
    2. If not, it uses the default RS library (= the RES_SHARE resource sharing library that exists in all Alma institutions)
    3. If no RS library exists (i.e. if the out-of-the-box RES_SHARE library was customized and the 'Is Resource Sharing Library' checkbox was unticked) or if multiple RS libraries are configured, then the customer parameter ill_item_creation_lib_code will be used

(This is for non NCIP partners (e.g BL), NCIP partners have a default library owner in their configuration)

Note that currently, the ill_item_creation_lib_code parameter is mandatory. With the April 2014 Release, it won't be mandatory anymore. If the system cannot determine a RS library, the requests will be rejected.

Also, the April 2014 Release will have the ability to bulk update users so you will be able to add this parameter to a set of users.
