    Requesting/recalling books

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Alma

    Question

When a patron requests a book where there are multiple copies on loan, only one copy is recalled. Is it possible to configure Alma so that all copies or a percentage of copies are recalled? When only one copy is recalled, what is the logic for determining which copy is recalled?

    Answer

It is not possible to recall more than one copy. But there is a configuration option that enables you to prevent renewal of the additional copies that are not recalled: Alma menu > Fulfillment > Fulfillment Configuration > Configuration > Physical Fulfillment > Block Preferences:
The relevant configuration option is "Not Renewable – Item has Request(s)". Choose 'Block' if you want to block the additional copies that were not recalled from renewal.
When determining which copy to recall, Alma takes the item that was loaned first and that is recallable according to policy, and also not a booking loan.

    Additional Information

The "Not Renewable – Item has Request(s)" block preference option was added in the April 2013 Release.
