Why are there ISBN numbers in Analytics that are not part of the MARC record in the Alma UI?

Question

Sometimes there are additional ISBN numbers listed in analytics that are not found in the actual BIB record, where are these ISBN numbers coming from?

Answer

If a bibliographic record is created and saved with an old-formatted ISBN-10, Alma also indexes the more current ISBN-13.  The record is not edited or changed, but the ISBN-13 is indexed behind the scenes upon saving the BIB record.

As a result the indexed ISBN will be seen in analytics reports and can be used in a repository search.

Note:

For Classic Primo, when using the out-of-the-box normalization rules you will be unable to search by the ISBN-13. However, there are transformation routines (ConvertISBN13toISBN10" / "ConvertToISBN13) which can be added to the rules and allow for searching by both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13. If assistance is needed with setting up these rules please submit a case to Primo Support.
