    Question

    Why is the Users Synchronize job not successfully updating or clearing the preferred name fields (pref_first_name, pref_middle_name, pref_last_name)?

    Answer

    A common reason why the job might not be able to update these fields is because they were previously modified manually within Alma. 

    The Users Synchronize job can update/clear these fields as long the field was last modified by the job or by API (without use of the override parameter). The job cannot modify or clear preferred name fields that were set in the UI, or by the API with use of the override parameter.

    If the user's account type is toggled to "Internal" and then back to "External" within Alma, the preferred name fields will then again be updated successfully by the job.
