Question

I've added the External Resource BDZ (BDS), following the announcement on page 10 of the April Release Notes that this is a new addition to the list of external resources this month.

But when I'm attempting to search for a title in BDZ via the Metadata Editor > External Resources facility, I get the following error message:

"An error has occurred, please try again later and contact the system administrator." (Z39.50 gate error: Connection rejected by the Z39.50 database server.)

Answer

The reason for this error is that this resource requires authentication. You need to contact the provider of this data service http://bibliographicdata.co.uk/ and acquire a user and password from them. Then you must fill in this information in the 'Credentials" field of the External Resource, username forward slash password, all in one string, with no blanks.
We will make sure to add such information about new External Resources to the Release Notes in the future.
