Analytics Configuration in a Network Zone

The E-Inventory Subject Area is unique amongst the Subject Areas available in Analytics. It is the only one where members have access to the Network data available for their institution. This includes both electronic resource data and bibliographic data. Access to this data is controlled through configuration on both the Network and Member sides.

This section covers the implementation of the configuration, lists the fields affected by this configuration and provides best practices for creating analyses using these fields.

When creating reports with Network Zone data, use the fields from E-Inventory > Portfolio Details for Consortia.

Configuration

To implement the feature that allows Member institutions to see Network electronic resource data and bibliographic information available for them, the following configuration should be enabled:

On the Network Side

The Network should set the parameter analytics_network_inventory_available_for_members to true.

Go to Configuration > Network Zone to open the Consortia Configuration Management dashboard. Then select the Analytics > General Configuration > Analytics Network Settings parameter.

Select either Distribute Selected or Distribute All, depending on the number of members you want to send that information to. Depending on the Dashboard distribution settings, it may override the member institutions. This allows members to define which data from the Network Zone they can see in E-Inventory Alma Analytics reports.

On the Member Side

The Member should set the analytics_network_inventory_available_for_my_institution to true. This is done in the Configuration > Analytics > Analytics Member Settings.

New for June! To access the complete bibliographic data for Network Zone records, members can set analytics_network_bib_data_available_for_my_institution to true and use the folder, Bibliographic Details — Full, in the E-Inventory > Portfolio Details for Consortia Members. This folder contains the full set of bibliographic fields and includes data for both local and Network Zone records.

The existing Bibliographic Details folder remains unchanged and continues to provide a limited subset of fields.

This setting applies to certain fields in the E-Inventory Subject Area in Alma Analytics. For the full list, see List of Fields.

Report Guidelines

Include Network Electronic Resources Available for the Member

If Members want to create a report that includes data from the Network, they can choose fields from the list at the end of the document. The report includes information on local electronic resources and those available in the Network for the member institution.

For example, this report displays both the Network electronic resources available to the member and local ones, providing Portfolio counts grouped by Electronic Collection.

Show Local Data Only

If a member wants to create a report that includes its local data only, they can do so by adding a filter to the Criteria on the Institution Code or Institution Name. By filtering on the Member’s own institution, only the Member’s data will be in the report. Use the main Institution folder under the E-Inventory Subject Area.

This report (same as above) has an additional filter on the Institution Name that shows only Member data.

If an Analytics report is run in the Network Zone, all member institutions are included when selecting the Institution Code and Institution Name fields of the Institution dimension.
