What is Happening with the Diacritic Characters in certain titles in KBART files from Wiley Online Library?

Alma users may notice encoding errors when processing KBART files from Wiley Online Library, specifically affecting diacritic characters (accented letters) in journal titles. These encoding issues can impact the accurate display and processing of bibliographic metadata for journals with non-English titles containing special characters.

Wiley has confirmed this is a known system feed issue that affects how diacritic characters are converted during the data export process from their internal systems to the KBART files that are used to maintain Wiley collections in Alma KB. Their development team is currently working with relevant technical stakeholders to resolve the underlying system feed problem. However, due to the complexity of the technical work required, Wiley cannot provide a specific timeline for when the resolution will be completed.

While this issue is being addressed, Alma will continue to use the current KBART files available from Wiley. The encoding errors primarily affect the display of certain journal titles but do not prevent the basic functionality of the metadata feeds. Once Wiley implements a technical solution, they will notify users and update their KBART files accordingly.
