Usage statistics for collections

I'm looking at the httpd access logs ( /exlibris/dtl/u3_1/dtle/apache/logs ) and the jboss server logs (/exlibris/dtl/j3_1/digitool/home/system/thirdparty/openserver/server/default/log/server.log), trying to determine how to gather usage statistics (our current measures are displayed at http://diglib.lib.utk.edu/metrics).

I realize that I can gather the collection ids for the subcollections from DAT01 (SQL-D31_DAT01> select Z126_REC_KEY, Z126_NAME from Z126;)

and using those numbers, in the apache log, I can identify an access to a subcollection by the phrase "func=collections-result&collection_id=1061" where that collection id is referenced.

If I hold onto the session id from this access ("D8188E8N38EV2EBAJ1NXDBE9UQPLQS1JBGP9Q812XIE5132BDK") and collect all accesses using that session id that follow, and which have this type of phrase ("func=results-jump-full&set_entry=000002")--

then I can collect accesses to a metadata record within a particular collection, and match it to whether the user is local or away (by IP).
However, the number of set_entry does NOT match pid or database record number, so I cannot identify which item this is.

Question 1: where in the database is the set_entry number of a particular collection identified with the PID?

Also, from the httpd log, there is no record of item accesses (access of pdf or image, for example). For that I have to go to the jboss server log. In this log, the item is identified by its storage location, which *does* include the PID, but no record of what IP is connecting, no session id, and no method of identifying the collection.

Question 2: Where in the database is the PID related to a particular collection?

Question 4: Is there any way to combine these logs in such a way as to co-reference the access to the metadata record and to the digital object?

I need to collect statistics on accesses for, at minimum, the Association of Research Libraries statistics collection... but also for our information as well.
