Esploro Research Collaboration Subject Area and Dashboards
You can use the Esploro Research Collaboration subject area to track collaboration in your institution. There is a out of the box dashboard, and you can also create your own reports and dashboards.
The Research Collaboration Subject Area measures collaboration by tracking co-authorship on research outputs – assets.
Esploro Research Collaboration Subject Area
The Research Collaboration Subject Area includes data related to both internal and external collaborations with details about the researchers, organizations and assets involved. Co-authorship in an asset is considered a collaboration.
The following sections describe the measures and dimensions of the Research Collaboration Subject Area.

Esploro Research Collaboration Dashboards
Accessing the Research Collaboration Dashboard
The Research Collaboration Dashboard can be found in the Analytics Catalog under Esploro --> Shared Folders --> Esploro --> DV Dashboards
From the Esploro September 2025 release the dashboard will also be available in the list of “Out of the Box Analytics” within the Esploro administrative interface.
Research Collaboration Dashboard Tabs
The Esploro Research Collaboration Dashboard has three focus areas – Researchers, Organizational Units and Assets.
The dashboard has five tabs:
- Intro – a brief description of the following four tabs.
- Researcher Collaboration Overview – overview of collaborations focusing on researchers.
- Researcher Collaboration Network – intended for a drill-down into the collaboration of a specific researcher. The dashboard includes a visual collaboration network.
- Organization Collaboration – overview of collaborations focusing on the organization and its units. The dashboard includes a visual collaboration network.
- Asset Collaboration – overview of collaborations focusing on assets.
All the tabs are pre-filtered to include collaborations from the past 4 years. The filter can be modified.

Researchers
Researcher Collaboration Overview
This tab provides an overview of researcher collaboration.
Filters
The tab has the following filters
- Researcher Name – names of affiliated researchers. If another filter is active (including the default “Last 4 Years” filter, only researchers that collaborated will be included in the list.
- Researcher Affiliation Unit Name – the name of the affiliated researcher’s organizational unit.Researcher Affiliation Parent Unit Name – the name of the affiliated researcher’s parent organizational unit. Select a parent academic unit to display the collaborations for all the child units. Collaborator Affiliation – the affiliation of the researcher’s collaborator. The collaborator may be an internal or external researcher, and the list includes external organizations and internal organizational units.Researcher Affiliation Position – the position of the researcher at the affiliation level
- Internal/External Collaboration – is the collaboration internal or external
- National/International Collaboration – is the collaboration national or international
- Last 4 Years – this filter limits the dashboard to the last 4 years. If you are interested in a different time-span disable this filter and select the year range in the ‘Collaboration Years’ filter
- Collaboration Years – collaboration year/s to include in the dashboard. The Year is based on the asset hierarchal year

Number of Collaborations by Year
This report displays the overall number of collaborations by year.
Number of Collaborations by Researcher
This table lists the collaborating researchers and the number of collaborations for each – overall number, and the number of collaborations by collaboration type – internal, external, national, international,.
Collaborations by Country
The number of collaborations by country.
Internal/External Collaboration
The percent of internal vs. external collaborations in a pie-chart.
National/Internation Collaboration
The percent of national vs. international collaborations in a pie-chart. When the country of one or both collaborating researchers cannot be detected the value is “unknown.”
Researcher Collaboration Network
Filters
The tab has the following filters
- Researcher Name – names of affiliated researchers. If another filter is active (including the default “Last 4 Years” filter, only researchers that collaborated will be included in the list. From the September 2025 release, the filter is set to the researcher with the most collaborations. Change the filter to focus on the researcher you are interested in.
- National/International Collaboration – is the collaboration national or international?
- Last 4 Years – this filter limits the dashboard to the last 4 years. If you are interested in a different time-span disable this filter and select the year range in the ‘Collaboration Years’ filter
- Collaboration Years – collaboration year/s to include in the dashboard. The Year is based on the asset hierarchal year.
Reports
Researcher Collaboration Network and Associated Tables
Displays a co-authorship network with the names and affiliations of the researcher’s collaborators.
The ‘Collaboration Details’ table displays more information about the collaboration and the ‘List of Assets Collaborated On’ table displays a list of the assets that the researchers co-authored.
Clicking on a node in the network will filter the tables to the relevant rows.
Organization Collaboration
Filters
The tab has the following filters
- Unit Name - the name of the organizational unit. From the September 2025 release, the filter is set to the first unit in the list. Change the filter to focus on the unit you are interested in.
- Unit Type – the unit type you want to focus on
- Collaborating Unit/Organization – the name of the collaborating organizational unit or external organization
- Internal/External Collaboration – is the collaboration internal or external
- National/International Collaboration – is the collaboration national or international
- Last 4 Years – this filter limits the dashboard to the last 4 years. If you are interested in a different timespan disable this filter and select the year range in the ‘Collaboration Years’ filter
- Collaboration Years – collaboration year/s to include in the dashboard. The Year is based on the asset hierarchal year
Reports
Organization Collaboration Network
Network of collaborations between an organizational units and other units and external organizations. It is recommended to focus on a specific unit for the network to be meaningful. Clicking on node will filter the reports under the network.
Collaboration Details
The ‘Collaboration Details’ table provides more information about the collaboration.
Number of Collaborations by Year
This report displays the overall number of collaborations by year at the unit level.
Internal/External Collaboration
The percent of internal vs. external collaborations in a pie-chart at the unit level.
National/Internation Collaboration
The percent of national vs. international collaborations in a pie-chart at the unit level. When the country of one or both collaborating researchers cannot be detected the value is “unknown.”
Within/Across Unit collaboration
The percent of collaborations that occurred within a unit vs. across units in a pie-chart. detected the value is “unknown.”
Assets Collaboration

- Asset category – the asset category
- Researcher Affiliation Unit Name – the name of the affiliated researcher’s organizational unit.
- Researcher Affiliation Parent Unit Name – the name of the affiliated researcher’s parent organizational unit. Select a parent academic unit to display the collaborations for all the child units.
- External Organization - the name of a collaborating external organization.

The number of assets that were collaborated on per asset type.

The percent of national vs. international collaborations in a pie-chart at the unit level. When the country of one or both collaborating researchers cannot be detected the value is “unknown.”
Within/Across Unit collaboration
The percent of collaborations that occurred within a unit vs. across units in a pie-chart. detected the value is “unknown.”
Number of Collaborators
The number of assets with N number of collaborators (i.e., authors). The numbers are defined automatically by Oracle starting from “0” (even though a collaboration will always include at least 2 authors).
