Difference Between Find Database and Find eJournal Searches ?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: MetaLib
    • Product Version: 4

    Description:
What is the difference between in entering search terms in Find Database and Find eJournal?
If I perform a Title Contains search for "biolog" (no y) in FD, nothing is retrieved. If I change the search to "biolog*", results are returned.
In Find eJournal, entering "biolog" does retrieve results.

    Resolution:
Two completely different products and indexes…
The Find Database > Title Contains search uses a MetaLib index. It is a keyword search looking at the MetaLib IRD record data. It does not perform automatic wildcarding.
The Find eJournal > Contains search uses an SFX index. It is a keyword search looking within the SFX eJournal A-Z list data. This index does perform automatic wildcarding.
