Pivot-RP Overview
Welcome to Pivot-RP
Ex Libris Pivot-RP is an online suite of tools for researchers and faculty that is accessible using a web browser. Pivot-RP provides research administrators, research development professionals, and individual faculty members quick and easy access to the right research opportunities, funding, and people. Pivot-RP provides global and local connections that strengthen research by exploring new avenues for funding and collaboration – for faculty, staff researchers, and graduate students.
Pivot-RP includes intelligent mapping features that expedite funding discovery, dissemination, and collaboration. With Pivot-RP, connecting the right opportunities with the right people is routine.
This document presents an overview of Pivot-RP's user interface, example workflows, and help using Pivot-RP's on-screen features.
Funding Opportunities
Pivot-RP's main feature is connecting you with available funding opportunities. These opportunities include the sponsor, funding category (keywords), amount, application requirements and deadlines, and where to find more information.
Pivot-RP enables you to mark opportunities in order to track them. You can mark highly relevant opportunities, ones that you are actively dealing with, as active. Tracking an opportunity enables you to receive updates when the opportunity changes and to get personal reminders about the opportunity's deadlines.
You can also share opportunities, browse opportunities shared with you, and create alerts to be notified when new opportunities that match certain criteria are added to Pivot-RP.
When enabled by your institution, Pivot-RP integrates with Cayuse, enabling your to find a proposal in Pivot-RP and start it in Cayuse. See Opening Cayuse from Pivot-RP.
Deadlines
Deadlines indicate any special dates associated with an opportunity, such as the last date to apply for funding. Deadlines may be set by the sponsor or by administrators. You can also set your own deadlines for an opportunity.
An anticipated deadline is automatically generated by Pivot-RP, and indicates an expectation of when the opportunity will return based on past events. For example, an annual award with a deadline of January 31, 2019 may be set to anticipated – January 31, 2020 when the 2019 deadline passes. Anticipated dates are conjectural and may be incorrect. We recommend, before submitting anything based on an anticipated date, that you contact the sponsor directly.
Users
If you are accessing Pivot-RP from within the IP range of a subscribing institution, you do not need a user account to search Pivot-RP or view results of funding opportunities. However, you will need to register for an account to take advantage of powerful features such as saving searches and getting alerts.
To maintain a list of funding opportunities, enable alerts, and so forth, you must create a user account. To do this, you must have a valid email address at an affiliated member institution. See Creating an Account (Registering).
Administrators
In addition, you can configure users with administrative privileges, which are known as administrators, or simply admins.
The job of the Pivot-RP administrator is to configure institution-wide settings for Pivot-RP, manage funding opportunities at your institution, and provide help for your Pivot-RP users. Help can include setting defaults for search filters or suggesting opportunities to specific users.
The admin can create reusable newsletters that enable the admin to share curated lists of funding opportunities with a targeted list of users once or periodically. A periodic newsletter is a particularly useful means of sending updates about a list of funding opportunities. Pivot-RP automatically notes any changes or additions to the list that have occurred in between each of the times that that the newsletter is sent.
The admin can also create system announcements, view usage reports and statistics, create a Pivot-RP search widget to add to your institution's website, and more.
An administrator account is well-suited for research administrators and research development officers to help find funding opportunities on behalf of other users. The actual tasks that you can perform as an administrator depend on your administrator account privileges.

Profiles
Ex Libris maintains over 3 million faculty profiles created and maintained by our Editorial Team. A profile is associated with an institution, published papers, and funding opportunities. It is expected and recommended that Pivot-RP users also have profiles. When you first log in to Pivot-RP, you can either claim a profile as yours, if one already exists in Pivot-RP, or you can create a new profile. You can manage your own profile, or you can designate one or more other users to manage your profile; these users are known as profile proxies or just proxies.

Conferences and Papers Invited (Conferences Seeking Papers)
Pivot-RP's Conferences and Papers Invited® database is a comprehensive collection of calls for papers issued by professional bodies, journal editors, and other conference organizers in all academic disciplines from all over the world. This feature enables you to search for and identify upcoming conferences and special journal issues where you can present and publish your research.
Important Terminology

| Anticipated Deadline | The expected last date to apply for a funding opportunity. |
| Funding Alert | An email sent to remind a user about upcoming deadlines, or notify a user about recommended opportunities. |
| Funding Type | The type of activity or activities a sponsor is willing to support for a particular funding opportunity. For example, equipment, award, or research. See Funding Types. |
| Funding Opportunity | An opportunity to receive funding for research, a project, or another academic activity. |
| Internal Funding Opportunity | A funding opportunity local to your institution and added by an administrator at your institution. |
| Limited Submission | A funding opportunity that only accepts a limited number of applications/proposals. |
| Papers Invited | A collection of professional bodies, journal editors, and conference organizers actively seeking submissions. |
| Profile | Collected information about a researcher and/or user. |
| Profile Proxy | A user who is designated to manage another user's profile. |
| Profile Role | A description of a user's role at an institution. Used for grouping users in some areas of Pivot-RP. |
| Saved Search | A dynamic list of funding opportunities. The list presents the opportunities that match some search criteria, so the matching opportunities may change every time you access the list. |
| Sponsor | An entity that provides a funding opportunity. |
| User | A Pivot-RP user. A user is assumed to be a researched interested in funding opportunities and/or an administrator. |
