Hybrid Linking in ProQuest Central

Currently, several of our ProQuest Central (Alma Collection ID: 613790000000000466, DBID: BENPR) subscribers are running into a known issue where results appear as Full Text available; however, no working links appear. This is because the CDI Rights process activates on a "Collection level", not on a "Title level". Since ProQuest Central (Alma Collection ID: 613790000000000466, DBID: BENPR) is a Link Resolver collection, Alma uses OpenURL to find a working link among your active Alma profiles. If there are no identifiers such as ISSNs/ISBNs in the metadata of the record, Alma then compares titles. If the title is not an exact match with the CDI holdings, no link will appear.

In order to solve this issue, we are introducing hybrid linking to ProQuest Central (Alma Collection ID: 613790000000000466, DBID: BENPR). For records with identifiers in their metadata, nothing will change. However, for content that does not have identifiers, the link will now default to Link in Record.

To implement this change in your own collection, please subscribe to ProQuest Central (Alma Collection ID: 613790000000000466, DBID: BENPR, PQCXX). As indicated by the name, this change is currently live for dissertations that are in ProQuest Central. Over the coming weeks, we will be expanding hybrid linking to include other content types without identifiers, such as newspapers and wirefeeds.

The SFX and Alma Collection will still have the CDI field Linking: Link Resolver till later this year, when we will change it to Hybrid. However, this is only descriptive and not functional.
