    Question

What changes are coming to Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) content in the Central Discovery Index (CDI)?

For information on the original changes, please see this article: Primo: DOAJ - content in the Central Discovery Index (CDI) - Feb 2021

    Edit 2022-09-29 -

The collection name change below was done in the Week 39 Content Release on September 25.

The 0-title collection as indicated below will be removed in the Week 44 Content Release on October 30.

    Answer

    Background

In 2021, changes to DOAJ metadata exports resulted in the loss of coverage date information in the Ex Libris knowledgebases. as a result, we created a second, zero-title collection specifically for CDI usage in Alma and SFX. In April 2022, DOAJ restored the OA Start Date values to their metadata downloads, and Ex Libris have returned these dates to the knowledgebases in May 2022.

    Change

Since dates of coverage have returned to the knowledgebases, we will now be removing the zero-title DOAJ collection, and returning to using the original DOAJ collection as we had until 2021.

Zero-title collection that will be removed (Scheduled for the Week 44 Content release on October 30, 2022):

Alma Collection Name: DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals
    Alma Collection ID: 615410000000002658
    SFX Target Name: DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS_FREE_FOR_DISCOVERY
    SFX Target ID: 5410000000002658

Collection rename (Completed in the Week 39 Content Release on September 25, 2022) - collection will also be marked as "In CDI" following next release:

    Alma:

Existing Alma Collection Name Alma Collection ID NEW Alma Collection Name Alma Collection ID
DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals - Not for CDI Discovery 61111061245432000 DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals 61111061245432000

    SFX:

Existing SFX Target Name SFX Target ID NEW SFX Target Name SFX Target ID
    DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS_NOT_FOR_CDI_DISCOVERY 111061245432000 DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS 111061245432000

    360 KB:

The collection used for CDI and the KB is not changing, however, you may have to revert some settings that we suggested you make last year. See below for more information.

    Customer actions needed

In order to continue to surface DOAJ records in Primo/Summon, you must take the following steps, depending on which Ex Libris knowledgebase that you use for rights to either Discovery product:

    Alma

Make sure that you have the DOAJ collection activated that includes Titles/Portfolios activated, currently called "DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals - Not for Discovery" (Collection ID: 61111061245432000). After the name change, it will be named "DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals" (Collection ID will remain the same).

Optional: If you kept "DOAJ Directory of Open Access Journals - Not for Discovery" (Collection ID: 61111061245432000) activated last year, you may change your collection settings back if you prefer to select individual titles from this collection. However, we recommend keeping the "We subscribe to only some titles in this collection" value set to No:

    1. Select Edit Collection from the row actions list. The Electronic Collection Editor page appears.
    2. Go to the CDI tab, and change the "We subscribe to only some titles in this collection" value to Yes if you want to make individual selections (not recommended).
    3. Select Save to save your changes to the electronic collection.
    360 KB

Since 360 KB kept the same database used in the changes last year, you may keep all of your current settings if this is working for you. You may change your collection settings back if you prefer to select individual titles from this collection. However, we recommend keeping the "Title Coverage" field set to All Titles (Intota) or unchecked (Client Center):

    1. In either Intota or the Client Center (360 Core), search for the database "Directory of Open Access Journals" (Database Code: DOA).
    2. Edit the database details
      1. In Intota, on the Database Details page, see that the "Title Coverage" field is set to ALL Titles (if you want to keep all titles selected), or Only Selected if you want to individually select titles (not recommended). Make sure that the collection is set to be discoverable in Summon.
      2. In the Client Center, on the Database Details page, see that the "Title Coverage" field is unchecked (if you want to keep all titles selected), or checked if you want to individually select titles (not recommended). Make sure that the collection is set to be discoverable in Summon.
    3. Save your changes to the database
    SFX

Make sure that you have the DOAJ target selected that includes Titles/Portfolios activated, currently called DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS_NOT_FOR_CDI_DISCOVERY (Target ID: 111061245432000). After the name change, it will be named DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS (Target ID will remain the same).

Optional: If you kept DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS_NOT_FOR_CDI_DISCOVERY (Target ID: 61111061245432000) target activated last year, you may change your collection settings back if you prefer to select individual titles from this collection. However, we recommend keeping the "Selective?" value set to No:

    1. Find the Target DOAJ_DIRECTORY_OPEN_ACCESS_JOURNALS_NOT_FOR_CDI_DISCOVERY
    2. Activate the Target (if deactivated)
    3. Make sure that the "In CDI?" field is set to Yes. Set the "Selective?" field to Yes if you want to make individual selections (not recommended).
    4. Click Submit to save your changes
