Date Facets - How are the ranges calculated?

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Primo
    • Product Version: 2

    Description:
How are the ranges calculated for date facets?

    Resolution:
Primo divides the values into 5 groups as follows: The four groups of the earlier dates get n/5 + 1 values and the fifth gets the rest of the values, where n represents the number of different values received from the facet: creationdate.

If for example, a search yields results with the following facet dates: 1994,1996,1998,2000,2001,2002,2004, 2006,2007,2008
    n=10

5 groups will be created - the earliest four will have 3 date values, and the fifth will have 2, as follows:
    - after 2007
    - 2004 - 2007
    - 2001 - 2004
    - 1998 - 2001
    - before 1998

    Notes:
    1. The creation date facet is static (not dependent on the top 200 values)
    2. If there is a span of less than 5 years, the creation date facet will not be generated
    3. The creation date facet for a remote search is split into 4 groups
    4. Years before 1950 are classified by their decade
    5. Years before 1900 are classified by their century
