Question

How does Primo VE boost the relevancy ranking for author-title queries?

Answer

When Primo VE detects that a user query contains keywords from the Author and Title fields, it optimizes the relevancy ranking calculation by applying an additional boost to those fields.

This happens only when we recognize the creator's presence in the query, either by:

  • Common author files created by the "Build Ranking structure" job,
  • Or, a permanent "famous authors" file

For the first file created, Primo VE limits the size using a frequency filter, which excludes creators with low frequency in our index.

The second file is curated and maintained manually based on the customer input.

Moreover, the author-title boost will not be applied if, in addition to the creator's name, the title contains just one word (this condition was added after we encountered some unexpected rankings).
