What is happening to WestlawUK - Journals?

    • Product: Primo Central

    Question
How do Primo Central and Alma uresolver / SFX reflect the recent changes in Thomson Reuter's WestlawUK?
    Answer
    • In light of recent changes to Thomson Reuter's Westlaw UK - Journals platform several changes were implemented in Primo Central Index.
    • The collection has been redefined as Link to Resource.
    • The direct links in Primo Central Index records now lead to Westlaw's new platform.  With the introduction of the new links, Westlaw urls will no longer require institution specific parameters, and the WestlawUK_linking template in Primo's backoffice is irrelevant.  In the future, the superfluous template will be removed, in the context of routine maintenance operations.
    • At present Thomson Reuters cannot support the Alma uresolver /SFX/ Westlaw targets and they have been suspended.  All local Alma records which are using CZ collection/portfolio uresolver configuration in Westlaw UK collection will currently not provide a valid target link for Westlaw UK.
    • Ex Libris recommends activating the Primo Central Index Collection to provide access. You may consider suppressing the holdings (and bib records) on Alma side to prevent patrons from seeing resources without functional targets on Primo side (further information: https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/060Alma-Primo_Integration/030Publishing_Alma_Data_to_Primo/020Suppressing_Alma_Records_from_Primo)
    • Depending on access methods and proxies, this transition, may vary from customer to customer.  Please provide feedback to ProQuest-ExLibris and directly to Thomson Reuters-Westlaw so that pending issues can be resolved in a timely fashion.

    Update - November 2019

    • Because Westlaw UK - Journals is configured as Link to Resource, all records appear as Full Text available, including records which are abstract only.  In response to customer feedback, a new sub-collection has been created.  Subscribers now have the option of deactivating Westlaw UK - Journals (Full Text & Abstracts) and activating only the full text records through Westlaw UK - Journals (Full Text).
