    Which Back Office configurations control language in Primo?

    Answer

    Four relevant pieces of Primo Back Office configuration control the Primo web page language, the display names for these web page language options, and the languages in the Advanced Search language dropdown selector.

    1. Mapping Table:

    "Languages"
    This table defines the language drop-down lists in the Institution and Views wizards and the view in the FE.
    Use this table to add another language option to the front end languages dropdown in the top right corner of the Primo web page
    To modify the label of the language, refer to the Interface Language code table.

    2. Code Tables:

    "Interface Language"
    This table defines the labels for the languages that are supported by Primo.
    Use this table to customize the display names for languages in the languages dropdown in the top right corner of the Primo web page. The display name can be different depending on the current set language for the Primo web page.

    3. "Language codes"
    This table defines the 3-character language codes, which comply with ISO 639.2.
    Use this table to find potential values to add in the views wizard for the Advanced Search language dropdown as described below or to change language facet descriptions shown in search results.


    4. Views Wizard:
    The views wizard controls the language dropdown in the Advanced Search.

    To add language options to the Advanced Search dropdown:
    1. Go to Ongoing Configuration Wizards > Views Wizard > Tiles Configuration
    2. Edit Advanced Search Tile
    3. Edit Languages
    4. Add a new language using the 3 digit language code, which should comply with ISO 639.2
    This might require some testing to find the correct language code.

    Additional Information

    NOTE: You can remove the "Language" selection entirely by only enabling 1 language in the Languages Mapping Table at Institution Level. 

    It may also be hidden using CSS Customizations.
