Configuring Item Display for Primo VE
For Alma-Summon environments, see Configuring Display Items.
Primo VE enables you to configure the information that appears in a record's Full Display page for items in the Get It section (original UI) or Locations section (NDE UI). You can configure the brief item display, opens when the user selects an item in the section, and the full item display, which is displayed when the user expands the bief item display.
Brief Item Display
This brief item display area opens when the user selects an item in the Get It section (original UI) or Locations section (NDE UI) section of a record's Full Display. Out-of-the-box, Primo VE displays the item's status, terms of use, and description, in this area. You can configure up to four display elements (item.brief.1, item.brief.2, and item.brief.3, and item.brief.4), each of which can contain up to three fields, for the brief item-display. When multiple fields are included in a single element, they are separated by the delimiter specified in the configuration of the element – for example, item.brief.1, labeled Availability in the illustration below contains two fields, Item status and Queue, separated by a space.

Full Item Display
When the user selects the down arrow
in the brief item display, the display expands to include all of the elements of the full item display. This means that, in addition to the elements of the brief item display, the activated elements of the full item display (item.global.dataitem.1, item.global.dataitem.2, and so on) also appear. Out-of-the-box, the supplementary items displayed are the additional call number, public notes, material type, location (which includes the library, location, and call number fields), and barcode. You can configure up to 12 display elements, each of which can contain up to three fields. When multiple fields are included in a single element, they are displayed on different lines.

Configuring the Brief and Full Item Displays
You can choose which elements of the brief and full item displays to activate, up to three fields to include in the element, the order in which the fields appear, and the display label of each element. By default, the elements of the brief display are not labeled, but the elements of the full display are labeled. Labels are always followed by a colon (:).
- Data fields that are configured in both the brief and the full item display areas only appear once.
- Changes made at the library or institution level apply to the whole institution.
- When the Item Policy field is included in an activated element, it is displayed in the item information only if the Item Policy field is defined at the item level in Alma. For more details, see Alma: Updating Item-Level Information.
-
Open the Display Items page (Configuration Menu > Discovery > GetIt Configuration > Items Display Configuration).
Display Items Page - Showing Default Settings -
In the Brief Item Display section, configure the elements you want to display in the brief item display, and in the Full Item Display section, configure the additional elements you want to display when the item is fully expanded, as follows:
-
If you have not already done so, select Customize in the section to enable you to edit its elements.
Brief Item Display Section - To activate or deactivate a display element, select its Active field.
- To edit an element, in its Row Actions, select Edit. A dialog box opens.

- Modify the settings as follows:
-
For the brief item display, modify the Delimiter of the element, as required. The delimiter is a string of one ore more characters that is inserted between the fields of the element, if it contains multiple fields. (For the full item display, this setting is not available, because the fields are displayed on separate lines.)
-
Modify the Label of the element as required. If you do not want to show a label for the element, enter NOT_DEFINED. A colon is automatically added to the end of the label in the UI.
- To add a field to the element, select Add Field, and then, under Item Field, select the field to add. An element can include up to three fields. If the Add Field option does not appear in the dialog box, three fields are already added to the element. You must delete one of them to add an additional field.
- To delete a field from the element, in its Row Actions, select Delete.
-
Select the up or down arrows to reorder the fields.
-
-
When you are finished configuring the element, select Done. The changes are implemented immediately.
