    Introduction

When geographical coordinates are included in the subfields of the KORMARC/MARC21 field 034 or the UNIMARC field 123 of a record, a Places map widget appears in the record's Full Display. In addition, if entity information retrieved for the record includes location coordinates for Location and Organization entities, these locations are also marked on the map.

    Activation

The map display can be turned on or off per view, in the view's settings.

To turn the map display on or off:
    • In the view settings (Configuration > Discovery > Display Configuration > Configure Views > [select Edit for the view]), in the General tab, select or clear the Enable Places Map Widget checkbox.

Configuring the Coordinates of Items to Display on the Map

The coordinates of the items that appear on the map are taken from the following subfields:

    • $d—westernmost longitude

    • $e—easternmost longitude

    • $f—northernmost latitude

    • $g—southernmost latitude

In order for the map to be generated, the coordinates must be represented in these subfields in one of two formats:

    • Decimal Degrees format (may or may not contain decimal points)
    • HDDDMMSS format (Hemisphere, Degree, Minute, Second)

Currently, Hemisphere values in UNIMARC field 123 must be in upper case in order for the map to appear. For example, $dW0010745 $eE0002500 $fN0492500 $gN0484600, rather than $dw0010745 $ee0002500 $fn0492500 $gn0484600.

    Markers and Tooltips

Markers appear on the map for the location of the resource itself, if location coordinates appear in its metadata, and for its related entities, if the information retrieved about them includes location coordinates. The following markers are used:

    • Locations given as two coordinates:
      • Resource location – Resource Location Marker - Flag.
      • Related-location entity – Location Marker.
      • Related-organization entity – Organization Location Marker - Buiding.
    • Locations given as four coordinates: Box on Map showing a four-coordinate location.

Placing the mouse cursor on a marker opens a tooltip indicating which entity the marker represents.
