For returnable requests (RapidR), the routing process prioritizes lenders that hold the requested title in print format. This ensures that requests intended for physical lending are directed to libraries that can supply a physical item. If no lenders with print holdings are available, the request is routed to lenders that hold the title in electronic format. This helps ensure that requests can still be fulfilled even when print copies are unavailable.

The routing prioritization is applied at the pod level. Within each tier, requests are first routed to lenders with print holdings, followed by lenders with electronic holdings. If no lenders in the current tier can supply the request, the process continues to the next tier, where the same prioritization is applied.

This behavior helps reduce delays and avoids routing requests to lenders that cannot fulfill returnable requests with physical items.

Contact the support team if you have any questions about this process.
