Title Usage Parameters

You control what Rialto takes into account when calculating usage for retention and deselection recommendations through parameters located in Configuration > Collection Development > Workflows > Usage Calculation. The available parameters are:

• DIGITIZATION_REQUESTS – Counts requests to digitize the item for electronic access, such as scanning or digital delivery.
• IN_HOUSE_USES – Counts in-house uses, meaning when an item is physically taken from the shelf and handled in the library without being checked out.
• LENDING_REQUESTS – Counts interlibrary loan requests, where another institution borrows an item from your library.
• LOANS – Counts standard loans (i.e., when a patron checks an item out from the library).
• MIGRATED – Counts migrated loan data that was imported into Alma from your previous system. These numbers reflect total lifetime loans before migration but cannot be broken down by timeframe (for example, last year or last five years).

To include or exclude a parameter, use the dropdown under Include in Usage Calculation, select True or False, and then select Save at the top right.

Courses Recommendation Rules 

You control which courses are considered in recommendation calculations for retention and deselection projects from the Courses Recommendation Rules page (Configuration > Collection Development > Workflows > Courses Recommendation Rules). The following settings are available on this page:

• Include Inactive Courses – Determines whether inactive courses are included in recommendation logic. This option is enabled by default.
• Course Years – Defines which course years are considered during recommendations generation. By default, this is set to All years. If you select Courses beginning after selected date, enter a start date manually or use the calendar icon to select it.

After making changes to the settings, select Save.

Once set, these settings are applied during the recommendations generation process. Only items included in courses that match the selected criteria receive the Courses badge.

Process Type Exclusion

You control whether your institution's items with specific Alma process types are included in recommendation calculations for your collection development projects from the Process Type Exclusion page (Configuration > Collection Development > Workflows > Process Type Exclusion).

The page lists all available Alma item process types. For each process type, use the dropdown menus in the Exclude column to determine whether items at your institution with that specific process type are considered during recommendation generation:

• True – Items at your institution with this process type are excluded from recommendation calculations.
• False – Items at your institution with this process type are included in recommendation calculations.

By default, all process types are included in recommendation calculations (Exclude = False).

After making changes, select Save.

Once configured, these settings affect item counts, recommendation labels, and title comparisons used during recommendation generation. Title usage calculations are not affected by this configuration.
