Introducing System Administration
This guide describes how to perform many administrative tasks in SFX. The tasks described in sections 1-4 are performed via the UNIX server and the tasks described in section 5 are performed via a special administrative tool called the Server Admin Utility.
This guide covers system administration topics for both of the operating systems on which SFX operates, Solaris and Linux. When instructions are specific to a particular operating system, they are noted as such.
This guide includes the following sections:
- Creating Additional Instances – This section describes how to add additional instances to your SFX installation.
- SFX Environment – This section describes how SFX uses features such as symbolic links and Apache Web servers and how to perform tasks such as changing an instance name, changing the HTTP port, and using the SFX daemons.
- Security – This section describes several security features in SFX, such as configuring SFX to work with SSL, restricting access to SFX Admin and SFX menus to a specific IP, and preventing a cross-site security breach.
- Testing and Debugging – This section describes how to use the SFX Admin Debugging Tool and Apache log files to debug SFX.
- Server Admin Utility – This section describes how to perform various administrative tasks, such as system maintenance, diagnostics, creating indices, and running exports.
- Task Manager – This section describes the SFX Task Manager feature that allows you to schedule maintenance tasks in SFX.
