How does Summon's Related Searches feature work?

Related Searches provides Summon users with topical suggestions for running a new query. You can enable or disable Related Searches in the Summon Administration Console Settings.
Patrons who scroll to the bottom of results sets will see topical suggestions for running a new query, much like Google provides search suggestions:

Related searches are generated through the use of word addition, word substitution, and acronym expansion.
These searches are available in all languages supported by the Summon user interface (see list of languages in the Summon Administration Console's Settings page); at this time, however, English-related searches are most prevalent. Over time, more query content in non-English languages will be available, allowing for an increased ability for Summon to generate broad scopes of related searches.
