    Voyager to Alma Migration Query: Bibliographic Records With Empty Index Entries

    Created By: Laura Guy
    Created on: 7/16/2020

    When migrating from Voyager to Alma, you may want to identify, review and clean up records where Voyager had problems creating index entries.  This results in index entries having no data in them.

    Causes include MARC coding errors, and subfields with either no data or containing only punctuation.  Records identified by this query should be examined and fixed if necessary.

    This query can be run using Voyager's Prepackaged Access Reports, and will display the INDEX_CODE field.  The first three digits of that field are the MARC tag with the empty index:

    SELECT BIB_INDEX.BIB_ID, BIB_INDEX.INDEX_CODE
    FROM BIB_INDEX
    WHERE (((BIB_INDEX.NORMAL_HEADING)="")) OR
    (((BIB_INDEX.NORMAL_HEADING)=" "))
    OR (((BIB_INDEX.NORMAL_HEADING) Is Null));

    For other queries that may be useful, see my "Surviving Almanado: tips for a successful pre-implementation" presentation's Accompanying Materials.
