How does "Allow Multiple Instance of Bulkimport?" work with multiple dbs?

    • Article Type: Q&A
    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: 8.2.0

    Question

We share a server with several other database instances and use WebAdmin for Bulkimport. Sometimes our imports are held up by other dbs running their imports via WebAdmin. Can we use "Allow multiple instances of bulkimport?" option to run our imports simultaneously?

    Answer

Yes. Support for multiple instances of bulkimport was introduced in Voyager 8.2.0, and applies across database instances for servers where multiple dbs share /m1/voyager/tmp (the directory WebAdmin jobs are sent to), as well as within database instances.

Be aware that if multiple institutions are running multiple imports simultaneously, this can place a high load on your system. It is still important to coordinate, particularly when one or more database instances wish to run multiple imports.

Also, when running multiple imports on your database, be sure that they are not updating the same records in the database. If the imports will update the same set of records, it is better to run them sequentially rather than simultaneously.
