From what point are recall fines calculated in Voyager for an overdue item that is recalled?

Question

If an overdue item is recalled, is the recall fine calculated from the date the recall is placed or the due date?

Answer

Fines are calculated from the due date upon discharge in the system. Thus, once the item has been recalled, the fine is calculated using the recall fine rate from the due date.

Additional Information

The system will not calculate a portion of the fine according to fine rate A and another portion according to fine rate B -- it selects either A or B as the appropriate fine rate at discharge based on what it knows about the item (i.e., if a recall request is pending, etc.), and applies it to the entire overdue interval.
