WebV: Apache Error Log filled with redundant "missing favicon.ico" messages

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: 7.0.1

    Description:
Bug Report Form for Issue 16384-13281
    Module(s): WebVoy?ge, Apache
    Server platform(s) affected: All
    PC OS (if applicable): All
Browser & version (if applicable): All except Internet Explorer

    Release(s) replicated in: 7.x.x
Last version without bug (if applicable): 6.5.4

Expected results: The apache error logs for each Voyager database will show legitimate errors only, i.e. ones that require the action of a system administrator.

Actual results: Apache access logs are filled with errors reporting a mission favicon.ico, “File does not exist: /m1/voyager/voydb/tomcat/vwebv/context/vwebv/htdocs/favicon.ico”

Workflow implications: System administrators will have to remove thousands of lines that point out one of the most trivial of all website errors.

Replication steps: Load any Tomcat OPAC page while tailing the Apache error.log file. For every page load, this error will be displayed.

Workaround: Adding a 16x16 favicon.ico file into the DocumentRoot directory will prevent this error from occurring.

    Resolution:
