WebV/UB:SupplyDefaultPickupLocs= variable not working in Tomcat

    • Article Type: General
    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: 7.2.1

    Description:
Bug Report Form for Issue 16384-12769

    Module(s): WebVoyage/Universal Borrowing
    Server platform(s) affected: Solaris
    PC OS (if applicable): n/a
Browser & version (if applicable): n/a
    Release(s): reported in 7.2.1; replicated in 7.2.2
Loss of functionality from (previous version, if applicable): Classic

    Expected results:
In a scenario where a local patron is placing a UB request for a local item, if the SupplyDefaultPickupLocs= variable is set to N, no default pickup location should initially be supplied in the dropdown (making it more obvious to the patron that the local db is not an option for the pickup location).

    Actual results:
In Tomcat WebVoyage, even if the SupplyDefaultPickupLocs variable in /tomcat/vxws/ini/request.properties is set to N, a pickup library/location will be supplied.

Workflow implications: If a default pickup location is supplied, patrons are more likely to submit the form without actually paying attention to the pickup locations – which increases the odds that they’ll submit the form with an incorrect pickup location.

    Replication steps:
In Classic on a UB-enabled database, verify that the opac.ini’s [UB_Page] stanza’s last two lines look like this:
    SupplyDefaultPickupLocs=N
SelectPickupLocs=You must provide a Pick Up Library and Desk before your request is complete!
Log in as a local patron, search for a local item, hit Request and select the UB Request form.
When the form displays, note that the Pickup Location field is not filled in. If you submit the form without this information, you’ll be blocked with a popup message that includes the text supplied in the ‘SelectPickupLocs’ variable.

In Tomcat on a UB-enabled database, verify that the SupplyDefaultPickupLocs variable in the request.properties file is set to N.
Log in as a local patron, search for a local item, hit Request and select the UB Request form.
When the form displays, you’ll see that even though you indicated that the system shouldn’t supply a default pickup location, it still does.

    Resolution:
