Why highest field weighting doesn't put record first?

    • Product: Voyager
    • Product Version: 9

    Question

When all keywords appear in field with highest field weight (as defined in System Administration > Search > Indexes - Field Weighting), why is that record not first result?

    Answer

Relevance ranking using multiple factors to determine the final weight of a record. Most of these factors are coded in the software and not available for customization. Field Weighting allows sites to tune one factor in relevance ranking, but because other considerations play into final weight, if keywords all appear in field with weight 500 in one record and weight 450 in another record, both records may still have same relevance ranking when factoring is complete.

Additionally, relevance search has no subsort so records with same relevance weight appear in the order retrieved by search within the same-weight group.
