Why are certain BMJ Journals found in free collections that require a user name and password to access?

There are a number of journals published by BMJ Publishing Group that are listed as being free by HighWire Press, often with a 1 year embargo. Although it appears that there is no free content because users are prompted to provide a user name and password to access the content, it is free and quick for anyone to create an account. Once the account is created, free content can be found as noted by HighWire. The account can be used across all BMJ publications to access free content.
