Why do coverage dates for certain journals available to my institution through the Freedom Collection not match the coverage dates that Serials Solutions tracks for these journals?

ScienceDirect offers a number of Primary License options, each of which may limit journal access to certain ranges of coverage.

Institutions with subscriptions to the Freedom Collection often have what ScienceDirect refers to as the "Complete" collection. Basically, this means that a you have access to all of the journals available through the Freedom Collection plus access to online journal content that is an exact match with your print holdings. In some instances, you may have print holdings that overlap with online journals currently included in the Freedom Collection. Depending on the coverage range for the print holdings, the online content for these journals may exceed what is available through the Freedom Collection.

To ensure your Serials Solutions discovery services display your subscribed ScienceDirect content, we suggest you use the Client Center's Offline Date and Status Editor (ODSE) to customize your holdings data to reflect the exact coverage that you are entitled to receive. To do this, you will first need the unique title list, or "UTL" as it is called by Elsevier, that contains all of the entitlement information regarding your ScienceDirect titles.

To generate a UTL, follow these steps:

    1. Visit ScienceDirect's Admin Tool page. See also instructions for the Admin Tool.
    2. Enter your user name and password to log in.
    3. On the ScienceDirect tab, click the link for ScienceDirect Electronic Holdings Reports.

Alternately, you may skip the above three steps by asking your ScienceDirect account manager to generate a UTL for you.

Once you have the UTL, use the ODSE system to update your holdings data in the Client Center.
