360 Search: Administration Console -- Database Settings -- Interface Details

    • Product: 360 Search

How do I configure the interface details of the database settings in the 360 Search Administration Console?

This page is part of a larger set of documentation about using the Administration Console to configure your 360 Search.

The Interface Details pages in the 360 Search Administration Console allow you to configure the interfaces, or connection targets, in your Serials Solutions profile for use in 360 Search. This includes entering authentication for the databases associated with each interface at once and setting additional details as needed for the connections to work.
The settings that you enter at the interface level cascade down to the databases associated with the interface, but can be overridden at the database level if specific information needs to be added for each database. For this reason, we generally recommend that you not edit information at the interface level in order to configure, and instead authenticate your databases for federated searching in 360 Search. However, there are situations where this may work for you; for instance, if you have a large number of resources on a given interface and the provider only requires a single authentication method rather than database-specific authentication.
To change the interface settings of a database, start at the Database Settings page in the Administration Console, double click on the name of the provider, and then click on the interface name. You will then see the Interface Details page:

When you are ready to start editing your Interface Details, click Edit in the upper-right corner of the page. After you make changes, click Save, or click Cancel to discard your changes.
Changes to these configuration settings will not be available to patrons until the next day; to see how your changes will work without having to wait, click Preview.

    Connection Settings
The interface connection settings are maintained by Serials Solutions. You cannot edit them.

    Authentication Settings
In most cases, you will not configure authentication here at the interface level, but instead at the database level, to insure proper connection functions. (Go to the Database Settings -- Database Details document to read instructions for the various configuration options for databases, including instructions for authenticating your databases for use in federated searching.)
However, some providers (in the list below) allow you to enter authentication usernames and passwords at the interface level, which will also take care of the database authentication. If so, you can enter your interface username and password in the Authentication Settings section of the Interface Details page.
ABC-CLIO: The single username and password provided to you by ABC-CLIO will authenticate all of the databases from this provider.
Bowker: The single username and password provided to you by Bowker will authenticate all of the databases from this provider.

Gale z39.50: Generally, the locID your library uses for Gale connections will authenticate most of the databases from this provider. The exceptions occur where you have one or more databases using a different locID, which you will need to enter at the database level to override the primary locID.
