360 Search: Database Connection Authentication Guide

    • Product: 360 Search

How do I get authentication information from providers to add to the 360 Search database connections?

360 Search is a federated-search application intended to search multiple resources -- or databases -- simultaneously, and as such will most likely include many of your library's subscription resources. In these cases you will need to gather authentication information from the providers to allow the connection technology to work properly.
We have provided instructions here for you to follow for the purposes of gathering the necessary authentications and configuring your resources in the Database Settings page of the 360 Search Administration Console.
For providers on this list that require IP authentication, you will need to give them your 360 Search Unique IP Address from the Database Details page.
If the provider you are working with does not appear on this list, then their resources likely do not require authentication. However, if you encounter a situation where you are configuring a resource for 360 Search and it does require authentication, but you do not find the provider listed here, please let us know using the Support Portal option near the top of this page. We will contact the provider to find out what their requirements are and how you can gather the required authentication information from them.

    E

    Ebrary
Please contact us using the Support Portal option above to have us set this connection up for you.

    EBSCO
Almost all of our EBSCO connections have historically been Z39.50 connections, which require your library's username and password to the EBSCO Z39.50 server for authentication. However, most of the available EBSCO database connections are now available as XML Gateway connections, supported by EBSCO's EIT Web Service. We are migrating the legacy Z39.50 connections to the EIT Web Service incrementally.

You will be able to identify EBSCO connections on the EIT Web Service in our Connection Settings page in the Administration Console if your Unique 360 Search IP address appears for each connection. In these cases please send a request to EBSCO to add your Unique IP to your account and to enable the EIT Web Service for your library.

You will be able to identify EBSCO connections on the Z39.50 server in our Connection Settings page in the Administration Console by the absence of your Unique 360 Search IP address for each connection. In these cases, please send a request to EBSCO informing them that you would like to connect to your EBSCOhost databases using a Z39.50 connection through 360 Search, and ask them for your library's username and password. Be sure to list the databases you are going to be using as well as your EBSCO clientID. (Serials Solutions has not been given an approved contact email address.)
In most cases the username will appear in this format: clientID.z3950.main where clientID is substituted with your library's actual EBSCO clientID. This format may vary for some databases. For example, Novelist and Novelist Plus will often have a username in this format: clientID.z3950.nov or clientID.z3950.novplus.
When EBSCO provides your username(s) and password, please enter them in the Database Settings page.
"EBSCOhost EJS" is an HTML connection that searches the interface at http://ejournals.ebsco.com/ASProcess.asp rather than EBSCO's Z39.50 platform. To authenticate this connection, please contact the vendor and request the addition of your unique 360 Search IP address to your library's account.

    EIU
To authenticate these connections, please contact the vendor (the latest email address we have is techsupport@eiu.com) and request the addition of your unique 360 Search IP address to your library's account.

    LexisNexis Academic
    LexisNexis Academic: Law Reviews
    LexisNexis Academic: Magazines

You can create the Client ID for this connection; it must be a meaningful institutional ID based on the library's name, not to exceed 20 characters. Once you've created an ID, enter it as the Interface Username in the 360 Search Administration Console in the Client Center. LexisNexis does not need to be provided with this username; once that information is entered as the Interface Username, test the connection to ensure the username meets LexisNexis criteria.

    OCLC
Authentication for any OCLC resources requires your library's FirstSearch Authorization Number (a nine-digit number) and FirstSearch service patron password. These are the same authentication values that will access your resources on OCLC's Z39.50 server for the purposes of federated search. If you're unsure about your authorization number or password, please contact your regional service provider (http://www.oclc.org/contacts/regional/) or OCLC FirstSearch support at firstsearch@oclc.org. Once you have these values, please enter them in the fields provided in the Database Settings page.
For OCLC's "California Libraries Catalog" (GIU), the following username and password is required to authenticate and can be used by any library: 100294414/caliguest.
NetLibrary is owned by OCLC but is different than their Z39.50 connections; hence, NetLibrary has its own entry on this page, and shouldn't be included in OCLC Z39.50 username/password requests.

    OhioLINK
To authenticate this connection, please contact the vendor (the latest email address we have is support@ohiolink.edu) and request the addition of your unique 360 Search IP address to your library's account.

    Ovid and Ovid SilverPlatter
Ovid resources require a username and password to authenticate your database connections via Ovid's Z39.50 server. If you are also requesting resources on Ovid's SilverPlatter platform, you will also need a username/password for the SilverPlatter Z39.50 server. Please ask the vendor for your Ovid and SilverPlatter Z39.50 usernames and passwords by contacting them via their web form: http://www.ovid.com/site/support/techSupportForm.jsp?top=34&mid=35. Once you have this information, please enter it into the fields provided on the Database Settings page.
Ovid does not have Z39.50 searching available by individual journal collections, which is why we have no connections to some frequently requested collections; but, Journals@Ovid Full Text searches the content of all of the journal collections your library subscribes to.

Oxford University Press (includes Grove databases)
To authenticate this connection, please contact the vendor and request the addition of your unique 360 Search IP address to your library's account. (For North American clients, use oxfordonline@oup.com. For other countries, use onlinesubscriptions@oup.com.)

ProQuest (including Safari) and Chadwyck Healey
The All New ProQuest Platform authenticates with your library's unique 360 Search IP address. To add your library's unique IP address on the All New ProQuest Platform, login to the ProQuest Administrative Console at http://admin.proquest.com with your administrator username and password. Click the "Authentication/Access" on the left hand side menu and add the unique IP address in "Add IP range" field. If you cannot log in to the ProQuest Administrative Console, please contact ProQuest (the latest email address we have is customer_service@proquest.com) to ask them to add that address to your library's account.
If you haven't migrated to the All New ProQuest Platform, then authentication for legacy ProQuest and Chadwyck Healey resources in your library's 360 Search requires a Z39.50 username and password for each database you request. Please contact ProQuest (the latest email address we have is customer_service@proquest.com) to ask for the username and password to their Z39.50 server for each database to which you would like to connect. It is strongly recommended that you list each database requested from both ProQuest and Chadwyck Healey. Once you have these values, please enter the usernames and passwords in the fields provided in the Database Settings page.
No authentication is required for connections to Safari or Ulrichsweb.
No authentication is required for Chadwyck's Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Gerritsen Collection, History Study Center, or International Index to Black Periodicals.
Teatro Espa ol del Siglo de Oro is an HTML connection that requires the addition of your library's unique 360 Search IP address. To authenticate this connection, please contact the vendor and request the addition of your unique 360 Search IP address to your library's account.
If your library subscribes to a graphical version of a historical resource, ProQuest won't give you a username and password because graphical versions are not Z39.50 accessible.
For some non-North American clients, your library may use Chadwyck Healey's U.K. server rather than the U.S. server that is the default for these connections. If this is the case for your library, please contact us using the Support Portal option above to have us set the following Chadwyck Healey databases up in your 360 Search:
    • Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature
    • LION
    • PAO
