360 Search: Truncation and Proximity Operators

    • Product: 360 Search

Can our patrons put truncation and proximity operators in search terms when using 360 Search?

360 Search enables patrons to enter wildcards, truncation symbols, etc. However, 360 Search just passes the search terms (including symbols) on to the native databases.

Whether the search returns appropriate results or not depends on whether the native database supports wildcards or truncation symbols and how they are interpreted at the native database level. Sophisticated patrons who need to use truncations and proximity operators are best served by searching the resources' native interfaces, where they can fine-tune their searches to a degree not supported by federated-searching tools.
