Alma: DOAB DIRECTORY OF OPEN ACCESS BOOKS: Occasional Chapter Records in the Title List Will be Removed
In August 2023 we have announced a major cleanup for the DOAB DIRECTORY OF OPEN ACCESS BOOKS (Collection ID: 613680000000000027).
We have explained that the title list as it is supplied by provider contains both book-level and chapter-level entries. It also contains book titles that are not fully available with full text, just a selection of chapters. A lot of the customers requested removal of both chapter-level entries and books with only partial full text available.
We have negotiated with provider and received a set of criteria that need to be applied to the title list to detect the entries that should be removed. We have tested these instructions and saw that they have successfully detected the relevant entries.
As of February 2024, we have received several support tickets reporting that there are some chapter records included in the title list again. All these records were not filtered out during the ingest of the title list as they did not meet the previously set criteria. We have reported these records to provider and they explained that they are relying on multiple contributors and will have to refresh the guidelines for data submission, so that the earlier established rules for designating a chapter record will be followed as expected. While the provider is committed to doing this work, they had no specific timeline for it to be completed.
We will, therefore add a condition for removing records with a leading string "Chapter" in 245$a field. Please note, that this rule might not ensure a 100% removal of all chapter records, as there might be some chapter records that do not carry a word "Chapter" in 245$a field.
